Replication Cities
The Replication Cities are not participants in the demonstrator case studies of the project, but they have the interest to replicate those CELSIUS solutions fitting specifically to their needs, specificities and city plans. Seven CELSIUS Replication Cities have committed themselves to the project via a Letter of Support; the cities are Athens, Riga, Ghent, Gdynia, Warsaw, Gdansk and Viladecans.
Key stakeholders in these seven cities are ready to welcome a CELSIUS expert team for support in developing feasibility studies for creating their own CELSIUS City Roadmap, adapted to their specific heating and/or cooling needs. This feasibility study will not only be about the possibilities for replication of state-of-the-art technical solutions exepmlified within the CELSIUS cities.
With involvement of the European Investment Bank in the CELSIUS proposal, suggestions for applicable funding models that could be applied will be an integral part of the work. The Replication Cities will be the first to deploy the CELSIUS concept, benefitting from the roll out of the project. The Replication Cities support the deployment of the CELSIUS concept/approach throughout the EU having developed tested and refined the approach.
What’s the difference?
A CELSIUS City is a city that believes that intelligent district heating and cooling systems have a role to play in the evolution of the city’s energy systems, and it has committed to actively engage and collaborate with the CELSIUS project in pursuing the city’s heating and cooling objectives.
A CELSIUS city endeavors to have energy policies that support the development of intelligent district heating and cooling systems in appropriate areas to supply affordable, low-carbon heat and cooling to customers and also endeavors to have strategies for designing, financing and constructing these systems.
