District cooling can work in synergy with district heating when using the Comfort Cooling technique as this allows the consumer to decide if they want heating or cooling simply with the flick of a switch. Comfort Cooling uses an acquifer to store cool water during winter time and then during the summer this cold water is pumped from the aquifer and into the distribution network.

This demonstrator is a collaboration between a number of city partners: the municipality, the energy company, the housing corporation, property developers and installers. The aim is to increase the number of households connected to the heating and cooling network by connecting customers who also have a demand for cooling.
