Connecting existing houses, apartments and other buildings into a district heating system is more difficult than connecting new buildings to that system due to physical limitations in the existing buildings, lack of public acceptance for collective systems, a non-favorable legistlative and regulatory framework and lack of experience in doing it. The existing buildings that this demonstrator will connect into the heating system are 200 houses and/or apartments and a bus depot. The heat from the system will be used for both space heating and hot water. The aim is to lower the current heating temperatures in the houses, which will lead to further energy savings whilst creating greater available heat capacity with the same heat source and infrastructure. The goal is to ensure that this project can be replicated under normal market conditions.
